Nkuringo sector is one of the four sectors that offers thrilling gorilla trekking experience where visitors move on foot into the tropical rainforest in search of the habituated mountain gorillas and once found spend one hour with them in their natural habitat.

Nkuringo sector in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers a variety of accommodation options for gorilla trekking, ranging from budget-friendly to luxury lodges. Some popular choices include as below.

Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge is a must stay for anyone looking to check gorilla trek off their bucket list. The lodge is one of the luxury lodges .Impenetrable Forest. Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge is an extraordinary getway perched on a magnificent ridge with remarkable views of the rugged landscapes and the elegant Virunga Volcano Mountains.

Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge comprises 9 garden cottages, 5 luxury forest suites and 2 family villas that sit above the Bwindi Forest canopy, offering a unique blend of distinctive elegance and luxurious comfort amid the trees, flowers, and shrubs. The spacious rooms are locally styled with furnishings that exude an authentic African charm, providing guests with a memorable and comfortable stay.

The private viewing decks offer a perfect vantage point to enjoy the scenic views of the misty forest swath below. Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge is award winning lodge named Uganda’s Best Safari Lodge at the World Travel Awards consecutively from 2016 to 2023. It is a community and conservation powerhouse, running on solar power and rain-harvested water to minimize its environmental impact. It is an excellent base for gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda.

They have a cocktail lounge that is for guest only that has a stunning view of the mountains and a garden that you can sit out on. The main lobby has multiple fireplaces and very cool interior design.

Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge’s 12 rooms are split into 3 categories, the Virunga Terrace rooms, the Garden Cottages and the 2 Bedroom Villa. The 6 Virunga Terrace rooms offer great value; they all have en-suite facilities, a front terrace and views over the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes.

The 4 garden cottage rooms are privately hidden away in the lush garden. Each individually crafted cottage has a fireplace for the colder nights, is powered by solar and has a large veranda.

The 2 bedrooms Villa is ideal for families or or groups of 4 people, each room is independent but the can be interconnecting. They are also joined by a large veranda with beautiful views overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Each room has a sitting area and fireplace for the colder night.

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge

Nestled away in Nkuringo, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge has immediate access to trek gorillas and perfect, continuous views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Guests stay in cottages built of volcanic stone, with big sitting rooms, double sided fireplaces, vast overstuffed armchairs, large bathrooms and private verandas. The lodge feels like a country house hotel transported to one of Africa’s most breathtaking settings.

An additional 7 habituated gorilla families are found at Rushaga, also easily accessible from Clouds via a short transfer. So is excellent food – and Clouds delivers that in spades.

The lodge boosts 8 spacious cottages built from volcanic stone. Spectacular views stretch all the way to the Virunga Volcanoes of Rwanda, as well as across the border into the Congo where the glow of Nyiragongo Volcano can be seen on a clear night.

The lodge is warm and welcoming, and each cottage marks a bedroom, en-suite bathroom with walk in shower and separate lounge. Comfortable chairs on the outdoor verandas provide the perfect vantage point to admire the unforgettable vistas of the forest below. Blazing fireplaces create a cosy glow as evening falls.

Guests stay in private stone cottages, all with fireplaces and sitting rooms furnished with deep plump sofas.  After a day of gorilla tracking, comfort is paramount and we get that.

Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge

Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge is a luxury lodge on Lake Mutanda views. An ideal location for those intending to track the mountain gorillas of southern Bwindi.

Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge comprises a row of very brightly coloured structures on top of a high ridge! To one side, are the communal buildings. The interiors are colourful and there is a stylish lounge with comfy sofas, a few books, a comfortable fireplace and beautiful views of the lake and beyond.

Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge offers a blend of comfort and relaxation, where attention to detail and customized service are supreme. And being the base for mountain gorillas, one can enjoy a trip on the hand built boat available for excursions.

The Kitchen is famous for its mouthwatering food. The specialties include bread, slowly baked in our wood fired oven, homemade muesli with handpicked ingredients and the freshest fruits and vegetables from our very own organic garden.

From the wooden deck overlooking the lake to the verandah in your private little garden, there will always be space to put your feet up, unwind and relax.

The dining area also flows out on to a deck. Here, you can sit and relax with a drink while enjoying the superb scenery all around you! Teas and coffees are available in the dining area throughout the day, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the communal buildings.

Guest accommodation at Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge consists of 10 chalets and a family cottage, spread out along the high ridge. Each chalet is painted a bright colour and surrounded by a fence for privacy. 5 are double rooms and 5 provide twin beds. An extra bed may be added to a double room to sleep a child.

Room amenities include bedside lighting, a wardrobe, a safe and extra thick blanket for cooler nights. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin and shower with hot running water and panorama window view. Bath towels are provided as is a laundry basket for your clothes to be washed at extra cost.

Additionally, outside the entrance to each chalet, there is a private garden with a patio another great place for taking time to admire the outstanding scenery.

Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge

Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge is one of the best lodges to stay while on your gorilla safari. The major amenities that make up Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge include coffee/tea in a common area, snack bar, front desk safe, daily housekeeping, restaurant and lounge, luggage storage, pool loungers, bike hire, hair salon, 24-hour front desk and others.

Mutanda Lake Resort

Mutanda Lake Resort is a must stay for anyone looking to check gorilla trek off their bucket list. Mutanda Lake Resort is located on a private peninsula with remarkable views on the Virunga range. The Resort is situated between Kisoro town, Mgahinga and Bwindi National Parks the Resort makes a perfect base for gorilla trackers, volcano hikers, bird lovers as well as those looking for a secluded place in nature. Water recreation possibilities are plenty, like swimming, canoeing or a boat cruise.

Accommodation is in cottages, built on elevated wooden platforms, each with private veranda and en-suite bathroom. The resort is located on the lakeside with beautiful views all around. The cottages are beautifully decorated with super comfy beds and a lovely terrace.

You have your own balcony overlooking the lake and also seating benches along the shore, a pontoon with sunbeds and there are a number of activities, such as canoeing and paddle boarding to choose from.

The resort is spaciously set up and stretches into Lake Mutanda. Our cottages each come with private veranda and en-suite bathroom. The Resort offers single, double/twin and family/triple rooms with comfortable beds and mosquito nets.

With the bar and restaurant, you can enjoy drinks by the fireplace and dinner with a view. The lodge provides free wireless internet in the restaurant, enabling you to share your gorilla experiences with your friends back home. However, as we are located in a remote area, the connection strength can be poor at times, especially during the evenings. We kindly ask for your understanding.

Laundry service can be provided, at a surcharge, for guests staying two or more consecutive nights. Laundry is hand washed and air dried, so the speed of drying is dependent upon the weather conditions.

The lodge can arrange pick-up services from Kabale/Lake Bunyonyi, Kisoro and Kigali, as well as transfers from the lodge to the starting points of the gorilla tracking, golden monkey tracking and volcano hikes. We would need to know at least one day in advance in order to arrange a transfer.
