Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is a top tourist attraction that is carried out in the Volcanoes National Park located in the Virunga region. This is the most sought-after safari activity in the country and there is a high chance of seeing the primates while trekking. Rwanda experiences two seasons that are the dry and wet season and these determine the best time and month for Rwanda gorilla trek holiday in the area.

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is all year round since it is the major tour activity that brings a great number of travelers. However, there is that time when gorillas can be viewed clearly with no barrier at all. There are two main seasons in Rwanda for gorilla trekking that is the peak season and the low season which are affiliated to the weather patterns. The peak season is in the dry season and the best season to trek gorillas in Rwanda although you can also go for the low season which is in the rainy season.

Between June and September, Rwanda tour offers an ideal climate for exploration. With pleasant temperatures and often light clouds covering the forests, this period is perfect for gorilla trekking and discovering the country’s lush national parks. The long dry season ensures navigable terrain, lower malaria risk, and breathtaking landscapes.

In this season, Prime gorilla viewing is paramount.  Forest treks are made more accessible since the forests are dry. You will enjoy stunning landscapes with sunshine and thinner vegetation.

Rwanda offers a pleasant tropical highland climate. From October to November, a short rainy season with brief bursts of showers that quickly disappear prevails. If you are not opposed to muddy conditions, gorilla treks are still possible, though slightly more challenging. A brief dry season from December to February enables more accessible gorilla adventures.

February offers unforgettable gorilla visits due to the warm climate and sunshine. However, accommodation prices are typically higher during this dry season, and planning is necessary. February offers a captivating blend of gorilla trekking, lush rain forests, and cultural exploration. February to May marks the long rainy season, with heavy downpours.

The rainy seasons from March to May are also a try period. In this period, every thing will be discounted so if your budget is limited then you can utilize this season. The scenery during this period is lush and breathtaking, and with good quality rain gear, primate treks are still possible.

May marks the start of the bird’s breeding season, and avid avian lovers will enjoy the spectacle of beautiful, colourful birds sporting their breeding plumage.

It is important to also note that the rains in Rwanda do not go on throughout the day like it is in Europe or North America. It rains for between one to two hours before the sun appears again thus enabling the activity to go on regardless of whether it is raining or not. Visitors are given rain jackets to cover themselves while moving in the rain. Gorilla trekking can never be cancelled because of too much rain.

Traveling during the wet season is generally less expensive compared to the dry season because most hotels reduce their rates to attract more guests. You can stay in one of the best luxury lodges that would seem too expensive during the peak season.
