Mikeno Lodge is a 90 minute drive from Goma and offers beautifully appointed bungalows and fine dining. The lodge, restaurant, and bar are all located within a forest and offer beautiful views of the rift valley and Nyiragongo and Mikeno volcanoes.
Nature walks and visits to local places of interest can be arranged. There is an abundance of bird life, as well as resident blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and baboons. Chimpanzees are also frequent visitors to the area.
The Senkwekwe Center for orphan mountain gorillas is just a 10 minute walk from the lodge and can be visited daily free of charge while staying at Mikeno Lodge and you can too experience the Congo hounds and this is a conservation program of the park products deploying breed dogs.

Mikeno Lodge is a compete high end lodge throughout Africa. Great room product with lot of size and fire place to keep warm at night. Rooms have views of the monkeys who regularly visit – and free laundry is a nice touch. Showers amazingly strong hot water with electricity 24/7. Rooms extremely clean and well maintained – a real credit to management.
Service also is fantastic. Led by the manager passion – he’s genuinely interested in making sure you have a good time. Rest of staff also try really hard. Food is very good. Not normal hotel standard, but actually interesting global food that would be happy to pay for in any city.
The other services like WI – FI in the lodge is good and is fast enough to post to social media and checking anything on internet- although only available in the common areas.
Location is in the Virunga central compound so safety is no issues. We loved being able to visit the gorilla orphanage as part of the stay. But note that for gorilla trekking or volcano trekking you will need to take a 60 minute car transfer to Bukima point and Kibati point to hike Nyiragongo. Therefore, the lodge is extremely well managed property that could compete anywhere in the safari circuit”.
